There are numerous books out there that interpret the history of the Beatles, but few that spell it out in basic detail as thoroughly as does "The Cambridge Companion to the Beatles."
Part of a lengthy series of volumes on a variety of subjects, "The Cambridge Companion to the Beatles" is divided in three parts -- Background, Works and History and Influence. The book, edited by Kenneth Womack, includes contributions from several well-known rock writers, including Anthony DeCurtis, David Liang and Bruce Spizer, plus a few academic writers as well.
The dry tone befits a textbook, which this basically is. It's also informative and can serve as a ground level study of the Beatles for anyone planning to do a research paper or just brush up on some knowledge.
