Review - Papa Prayer - Part 4 -

Addictions are common, and this portion covers the second step of remedy for any addiction.

P for purge yourself of anything blocking your relationship with God. Do you see the word that offends me here? YOURSELF.

The dictionary explains purging: To remove (impurities and other elements) by or as if by cleansing. 2. To rid of sin, guilt, or defilement. 3. Law: To clear (a person) of a charge - ONLY GOD CAN PURGE SIN

Perhaps the author means confessing or repenting (Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,)

But we can never purge ourselves of anything. I’m led to believe the author understands and teaches that from his further description to “put into words whatever makes you uncomfortable or embarrassed when you’re real in your relationship with Him (God)… Also, when he asks, “How are you thinking more about yourself and your satisfaction than about anyone else including God and His pleasure?” – it sounds more like putting my name into every one of the ten commandments – making it personal – in other words recognizing, CONFESSING and then REPENTING.

But only God can actually do the purging.
