Review of 'Salt'

Evelyn Salt is a CIA officer whose loyalty is tested when a man accuses her of being a Russian spy. She uses her skills and years of experience to elude capture by superiors who are convinced that she will try to assassinate the president. But, the way she tries to prove her innocence starts to raise some eyebrows.

Like Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie is one of the best actresses of her generation. She excels in action-packed films. Both women can save a bad movie thanks to their excellent acting skills. Theron helped “Aeon Flux” not fall into oblivion; Jolie did the same with “Salt.”

The film starts off well. The first 10 to 15 minutes look promising. And then, Hollywood revisits old ideas, making the story predictable. The twist and ending we have already seen many times. Even Chiwetel Ejiofor (“2012,” “Children of Men” and “Dirty Pretty Things”) and Liev Schreiber (“Scream” series and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) prove disappointing.

The only great thing about the movie is the fact that, for once, it is a woman who is chased and beats everyone. And Angelina Jolie does it beautifully. She would make a wonderful female 007. “James Bond” producers, are you reading this?

“Salt,” a movie written by Kurt Wimmer and directed by Phillip Noyce. Cast: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alex Pettyfer, Gaius Charles, Victor Slezak, Marion McCorry, Jonah Keyes.
