Review of 'On My Own Now' by Donna Lee Schillinger

If there is anyone thing young women need today, it is a good portion of God’s cleansing and protecting word.

In Donna Lee Schillinger’s book ‘On My Own Now: Straight Talk from the Proverbs for Young Christian Women who Want to Remain Pure, Debtfree' and Regretfree,’ that is exactly what is proclaimed.

These twelve chapters provide sound biblical advice to women of all ages but especially to younger women.  She includes such topics as real beauty, real friendships, real family and more.

She discusses from a ‘been there, done that’ perspective which gives much authority to what she teaches. It is one thing to teach the knowledge of a thing and quite another to teach from experience. And Donna Lee Schillinger does just that. Sometimes it is from painful experience.

The appearance and writing style is geared toward a young woman, though the precepts and examples from Proverbs would benefit women of all ages.  I am not sure if the author speaks in the style she writes but no matter, the style this book is written is perfectly suited for the young audience and adds to its appeal to young readers.

This would make a great YA bible study for the girls in your Youth group.  I recommend it highly.

Hmmm. I wonder if my daughter would read this if I got it for her?

There's only one way to find out! But, I would like to point out that the book comes with a free audio book as well. The audio book is abridged, but if she wouldn't read it, she might put it on her MP3 and listen while she works out or veggies out, whatever her thang might be.
