Review of Hula's Modern Tiki in Central Phoenix (Photos)

Looking for an occasion to wear your best Hawaiian shirt? Hula’s Modern Tiki situated on the light rail, is a trendy, local hangout with unique drinks and tasty food. This is not your parent’s Hawaiian nightclub with the tacky tiki lamps and bad music. Whether you’re celebrating tiki hour, better known as happy hour or sit down for a full dinner, it’s always a great experience. A very laid back vibe with a wonderful patio, you’ll find the service to be friendly, attentive and professional.

I recommend starting off with a Painkiller, a cocktail filled with Appleton’s Gold Rum, coco lopez, pineapple and orange juice. The Hawaii 5-0 is another winner with two types of rum and tropical juices. If you’re up for an adventure, share the Scorpion Bowl with your best bud sipping a variety of rums, Brandy and juices out of a decorative bowl big enough for 2-4 people.

Hula’s Modern Tiki offers a veg-friendly menu with a veggie burger that is one of the best in the Valley, spicy tofu tacos and the jungle tofu bowl that is a bit of sweet and spice due to the curry sauce and fried sweet plantains. Cheesy mac and cheese, spicy edamame, fish tacos, hamburgers, and bali hai bbq ribs round out the menu.

The brunch menu on both Saturday and Sunday offer your typical breakfast fare but also include fried spam, a Hawaiian favorite, and Hula’s Hangover Hash featuring a big helping of luau pork hash over hash browns, topped with two over medium eggs. Sure to cure what’s ailing you.

Always something happening at Hula’s Modern Tiki, stop by on Mondays for Mahalo Mondays and Hula’s will donate 10% of the day's gross proceeds to a local non-profit. For only $20 you’ll receive two appetizers and two tropical cocktails on Tuesdays. Wednesdays are all night happy hour with food and drink specials till 11pm. Visit Hula’s Facebook and Twitter sites on Thursdays for “word of the day” discounts.
