Having enjoyed the first book in the Lola Cruz mystery series, I was looking forward to reading Hasta La Vista, Lola! Suffice to say, I was not disappointed. If anything, Ramirez's prose is wittier and funnier than ever.

In this the second book, private detective Lola Cruz wakes up one day to discover that she's been murdered in an alley in a shady side of town. Well, sort of. For one thing, she's very much alive. But then, who is the dead woman, also named Lola Cruz, who news anchors can't stop talking about on the TV? Has someone stole her identity? If so, was the killer intending to kill her, and not the woman who was murdered? With the help of drop-dead gorgeous journalist Jack Callaghan, Lola sets out to solve the mystery. Of course, first she must convince her entire family that she's still alive and not a ghost, as her grandmother keeps insisting...

Hasta la Vista, Lola! will keep you turning pages and smiling and sometimes even laughing out loud. The characters are so real, you'll get the feeling they're talking in the same room with you. Lola is sympathetic and her comebacks and observations are smart and humorous. The story mixes elements of mystery, chick lit and romance, making this a fun, enjoyable read. Of course, Ramirez also adds a generous measure of Latina flavor to the mix. If you love chick lit mysteries, you'll love Lola.
