Brand: Shui Tea

Type: Green tea, flavored

Form: Loose leaf

Review: Chicago-based Shui Tea specializes in funky flavored teas in spiffy packaging. They were kind enough to send me a sample of their "City in a Garden", an orange flavored sencha that was developed to benefit the Chicago Junior League (a percentage of each sale supports the Junior League's outreach work).

First of all, I really like the way the dry leaf smells. Instead of the sickly-sweet "Tang-like" quality of many orange-flavored teas, the orange fragrance is deep, rich, citrusy and smells surprisingly like a real orange. The fresh, crisp orange scent continues after the tea infuses to a light, bright green.

The tea also tastes wonderful: The sencha is a good balance to the tangy fruit, and the hot brew manages to be both refreshing and comforting at the same time. Even better, though, is this tea on ice. In fact, it may now be my favorite iced tea.

Highly recommended.

Upcoming: I will be interviewing the owner of Shui Tea on my Podcast this coming Wednesday at 7pm. Click here for more details.
