Review: Ambassador Organics is a Chicago-based company, founded by former United States Senator and Ambassador to New Zealand, Carol Mosley Braun. The company's line of teas are certified organic, biodynamic, and fair trade, and come in sturdy, reusable tins.
Ambassador Organics' Earl Grey Green Tea is made from dark green, broken Ceylon leaves, which are packed into biodegradable silky pyramid bags (no string). The dry nose is dominated by oil of bergamot (as would be expected with an Earl Grey), though the bergamot note is not overwhelming.
The tea infuses to a very pretty yellow green, with a smooth, light bodied mouthfeel. The bergamot blends well with the green tea, and it is far more subtle on the palate than the nose would suggest: You can taste the (fairly strong) green tea as well as the bergamot. For those who prefer a less-assertive Earl Grey, or who like a mildly flavored green tea, this would be an excellent choice.
Incidentally, the bergamot is subtle enough that I would not recommend preparing Earl Grey Green Tea as an iced tea: It tastes just fine, but the chill mutes the bergamot to the point of irrelevancy.
