Hurry Up Shotgun plays a brand of post-hardcore in the Hoover mold. They're a four-piece with a singer who looks like a young Ron Jeremy. It was the release show for their new cd, which they were giving away free; a good price for a cd these days. It's easily worth twice that. Seriously, though, if you missed out, "Hold the Angle" is worth a buy. Judging by the newer song they played, their next album will be too.
Sister Grizzly hails from an earlier, more punk-influenced era of indie rock, when songs were rugged and raw, but still full of feeling, without all the preciousness of a lot of current indie rock.
Big Blue Whale makes a great big rock sound with just bass and drums. Their myspace description is rock/rock/rock, which pretty much sums it up, unless you want to add the word "awesome." They say every one of their shows is a canned food drive. Now you don't have to wait for the holidays to get rid of that canned chicken. It's refreshing to see a band with a social conscience working in such a practical way.
