On a recent trip to New Braunfels, Texas we ended up in the historic area of Gruene. If you are ever here, Gristmill River Restaurant and Bar is one place that you have to eat. This was one of the most unique places we have ever been.
Gristmill is located under the watertower in an old cotton gin. It has been turned into a great three story restaurant that overlooks the river. This is not something you will see every day. When you show up, they have heaters outside along with a small stage. The kids are running around happy and climbing in the trees as waitresses take your drink order. We only had a wait of about 10 minutes.
We sat on the third floor and had a great view of the river, but could also look down and see everyone enjoying their meal. The entire place has a rustic feel.
You can get a decent priced meal or spend a lot on your dinner depending on what you want to order. We started out with the homemade spicy queso and chips. It had just the right amount of spice and the chips were hot and tasted homemade.
Each of our meals came with a salad. They were great, but did come with the dressing on them and not on the side. We could have used a bit more dressing to finish the entire salad.
My youngest daughter got chicken strips and fries. It was a ton of food and she loved it! Everyone else ordered the New York Strip cooked medium. Every single one was cooked to perfection. They also did not take very long to bring us our order.
For dessert, we tried the H.D.'s Chocolate Supreme. It was fudge pie covered in ice cream and whipped topping. It was rich and delicious. There was so much dessert here that we couldn't eat it all and it was only $6.99.
I would highly recommend The Gristmill River Restaurant and Bar if you are in Gruene, Texas. This is one experience you will never forget.
