I recently purchased the Roku and the Google Chromecast. Per my previous article on the Roku I had to check out the Google Chromecast and test it out to see if we need both or which one is the most useful product. I know it is somewhat like comparing apples to oranges since the Roku definitely offers more options the one thing it is missing is youtube. I had to ask myself why I need to own both?
Chromecast just like the Roku offers the 3 step set-up process of plug in, connect and watch. The device is small and Chromecast automatically updates to work with a growing number of apps on your Andriod and iProducts. I quickly got the app on my phone and after I plugged in the Chromecast I geeked out. It was nice to pause and navigate on my iPhone but it’s still no Roku. I like options of Chromecast, usability is easy to navigate, I just got bored within an hour of testing it.
Chromecast is compatible with WiFi-enabled Android 2.3+ smartphones and tablets; iOS 6.0+ iPhones, iPads, and iPods; Chrome for Mac® and Chrome for Windows®; and Chromebook Pixel. It’s less expensive at a price point of $35.00 but as a gift I prefer the Roku…sorry google.
