Signs of autumn surround us. The leaves are changing colors, temperatures are cooling, and pumpkin flavored food and coffee are everywhere you look. Before the onset of winter take advantage of outdoor fall activities with your family, friends, and loved ones. Lyman Orchards is a popular Connecticut location for outdoor activities throughout the months of fall.
My weekend experience at Lyman Orchards was a favorable one, although the crowds tend to increase during weekends and favorable weather. Lyman Orchards is split between their store location, pick your own fruit, and a golf coruse. As you enter the main location where their store is located, you are greeted by the smell of freshly popped kettle corn. That is the first and not the last food to rope you into a purchase. On the outside deck of the Apple Barrel store first come first serve picnic tables allow you to enjoy the outdoor breeze. Lunch is available for purchase indoors and outdoors. Their variety includes hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, and for dessert apple cobler or apple cider donuts. Their apple cider donuts are reason alone to visit. They are also for sale in the Apple Barrel. Fresh baked pies, apple cider, fruits, veggies, and desserts from their bakery are also for sale.
Once you have a full tummy, Lyman Orchard is full of family entertainment. Their Lady Liberty themed corn maze is open through the month of October (closes November 3, 2013). It is open daily from 8am-5pm. Expect to put your mind to the test answering trivia questions to exit the maze. Younger children will be attracted to the pony rides. Romantic love birds and book readers will enjoy the grassy area beside the pond. It is the perfect place to set up a picnic blanket to enjoy your day outdoors.
A fall favorite is Lyman Orchars' pick your own fruit and pumpkins. Their apple orchard is a hit this time of year, rounding out the season of pick your own fruit until the spring. Families will be attracted to the pumpkin patch where you can find the perfect orange pumpkin to take home.
Overall this local orchard has food and entertainment to attract all ages. Lyman Orchards is locatd at 32 Reeds Gap Road in Middlefield, CT. For more information call (860) 349-1793.
