Review: Cheap Trick does what the Beatles didn't -- performs 'Sgt. Pepper' live

It was 43 years ago this week that the Beatles released "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." But one thing the group never did was perform the album live.

Cheap Trick, whose sound has Beatles touches to it, is performing "Sgt. Pepper" live beginning June 11 at the Paris Las Vegas. The band released "Sgt. Pepper Live" on both CD and DVD last year.

It's a marvelous show. The band sounds robust and the live "Pepper" works great outside of the studio. The album introduction rocks, as do several other songs, including "Lucy in the Sky" and "Getting Better."

The show finishes off with the "Abbey Road" medley, a great ending.

The CD contains just the show. The DVD features a band interview as they talk about what the album and the Beatles meant to them.

The old cliche about "a splendid time" rings true -- this is a great performance of a great album.

Now that this year is the 30th anniversary of Double Fantasy and Lennon's 70 B-Day...I would love to see members of CT with original session players do the album live like John would have done in 1981..
They would be perfect.. Now the question remains... Who's gonna sing Yoko parts? Gwen Stefani would do OK!

I had bought this months ago and watched in awe. Have been a fan of CT for many years and this instills their brilliance in music.Yes, brilliance! They do each number track by track. You are still reeling from them doing "Good Morning Good Morning" brilliantly ..You are in awe from that and then comes the astounding "Within You Without You"!!..THEN "Lovely Rita" etc..leading up to "A Day In The Life"...You have to see it to believe it! You will not be disappointed!!

Many of you missed this, but a few years ago on the Discovery Green (Houston Texas) the Fab 40 pulled off Sgt Pepper from beginning to end, live for hundreds of fans. Last year the Fab 40 performed Abbey Road from beginning to end. This year the Fab 40 are taking a detour as they are going to perform Pet Sounds from Beginning to end (and I would be certain that they may play a selection of Beatles and Beach Boy tunes as encores)
