Establishment candidate Mitt Romney discovered this evening, just why it is so many folks consider South Carolina the heart of the Republican Party. Ahead of this evening’s debate, Governor Romney’s plans for a smooth coronation as the GOP nominee had already suffered serious setbacks.
Seems when the votes were actually counted, despite having been blessed as the presumptive nominee by FOX and the main stream media, Senator Rick Santorum was declared the winner of the Iowa primary, When it rains it pours, On top of the embarrassment of having to call the real winner of Iowa to concede, the day only seemed to get worse for Mitt, the candidate who exposed him as a vulture capitalist, Governor Rick Perry of Texas bowed out of the race, throwing his support to tonight’s debate winner Speaker Newt Gingrich.
CNN’s John King began the debate by putting Speaker Newt Gingrich on the spot over an ABC interview that featured Gingrich’s ex-wife alleging he approached her about living in an open marriage, The crowd was on its feet several times clapping for Gingrich as he verbally kneecapped the CNN moderator, saying it was despicable to offer an already repudiated allegation as the first question of a Presidential debate.
After this Evening’s performance, it does seem as though Speaker Gingrich during the course of the debates has pretty much handed the other candidates their asses on silver platters, which would explain why despite political obituaries a plenty, he has come back from the election grave yard thrice in the last couple months.
The revelation he had millions stashed in offshore Cayman Island accounts as well as his unprompted admission he pays less in taxes then poor folk, in some cases no tax at all, despite his two hundred million plus fortune, has allowed other conservatives to craft an image that colors Willard Mitt Romney as just another establishment candidate looking to protect billionaires from having to pay their fair share of taxes while middle class Americans, struggle to keep what they have spent a life time working for.
