As the fourth season of "Revenge" gets closer to airing, more spoilers and hints are being released. The latest is the addition of a new character that will surprisingly be in Victoria's corner. TV Line reported on Monday that actor Nestor Serrano will be playing Edward Alvarez on the drama. The actor's credits include "Blue Bloods" and "Dexter" as well as "90210."

Edward Alvarez will be a recurring character on "Revenge" season 4. The character is described as being a "commanding and perceptive police chief" who is in Victoria's corner. Executive producer Sunil Nayar said that Alvarez will have Victoria's back at a time when she really needs it. More information was not released because they are just starting to explore the character. Sunil said that they are not sure where they are headed with the police chief, but they do like the idea of Victoria having a friend in a position of authority.

For Victoria Grayson to have a police chief in her corner might not turn out so well for Emily Thorne. Even though Emily will try to live in truth next season, Victoria wants payback. She isn't the type to forgive and forget, so it makes sense that fans are speculating that Victoria and Alvarez will make Emily's life difficult. It will be interesting to see if Victoria manipulates him or if he knows exactly what kind of friend he has.

Other new characters joining the "Revenge" family include Yeardley Smith (The Simpson's) as a mental patient, Brian Hallisay (The Client List) as Ben and Elena Santine (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Louise Ellis. James Tupper, the actor who plays David Clarke, has been promoted to series regular.

What do you think of Serrano joining the show? What will his storyline be on the upcoming season? ABC's "Revenge" will return on Sept. 28.
