“Revenge” season 3 ended with a stunning finale and plenty of cliffhanging leaving fans to wonder what will happen in season 4. According to the writers and showrunners, the series will return in the fall better than ever, according to Yahoo! News on May 30.
Ted Sullivan, “Revenge’s” writer says the team is back to work and the writer’s room is a bee hive of activity, with plenty of creative ideas buzzing about. Showrunner Sunil Nayar adds, "One of the ideas was to reboot [the show], and one of the ideas was to really just kind of boot it in the ass, and I think we did both things really well."
When we left the Hamptons, Aiden (Barry Sloane) was dead. Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) had been committed to a psychiatric hospital thanks to Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp). And the most shocking cliffhanger of all – David Clarke (James Tupper), Emily’s father, who had supposedly been murdered in a prison riot, was not only alive but taking some revenge of his own.
"The audience knows what he did to Conrad, they know what a raw act of vengeance it was," Nayar said. "So the David that's eventually going to come back to town isn't going to be the David that the people in the Hamptons know, but the viewers have seen him and know what he's capable of. That's a fun dynamic we've never gotten to play with before."
It was Clarke’s death that was the true motivation behind all of Emily’s machinations. Will her mission remain the same when she learns he is alive?
"He is, of anybody that can come walking into the Hamptons, he is the game changer and we felt the best way to bring him back to the Hamptons is when we reintroduce him, you realize this man is no longer about forgiveness, that revenge has become a part of his makeup," Nayar said, according to Gospel Herald. "So that the man that both Emily and Victoria think they knew isn't the guy at all. Whether people love it or hate it, I'm sure it's going to be a polarizing decision, there's nobody who's not going to want to know where he's been and what he's about, so we can't wait to tell those stories next season."
“Revenge” Season 4 will return to ABC this fall. No date has been released yet and whether or not the show will keep its 9 p.m. time slot is also unknown at this point.
