Revenge, Scandal Make ABC's Renewal List

The wait is over. Emily Thorne a.k.a. Amanda Clarke (Emily VanCamp) gets another stab at Revenge.

Is there no end to Emily/Amanda's revenge?

The popular soap, which proved this season that it still has some creative legs, was among the ABC series renewed Thursday for 2014-15 season. As expected, frenetic—but oh-so-loved—Scandal and that wandering fairy-tailed beast, Once Upon a Time, also received new season orders.

Not to be left out: revered, long-running dramas Grey's Anatomy and Castle. The former will have a curious road ahead now that Sandra Oh is checking out of the medical drama after a decade-long run—let's not forget that Gaius Charles and Tessa Ferrer, too, who are also leaving. Good news for Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes, however. ABC has picked up her new drama, How to Get Away With Murder with Viola Davis at the helm.

Other ABC pickups include: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.LD., that Joss Whedon's Avengers cousin that never quite received the critical praise its creators craved—or the stellar ratings. Freshman sitcom and all-around enjoyable ’80s romp, The Goldbergs, will be back as will—no surprise—Modern Family, which returns for a sixth season.

While it's nice to see ABC's confidence in Revenge, its writers might want to think ahead and let the show go out with bang at the end of next season, especially since Sunday's season finale reportedly reveals Emily's true identity to all. Where would the show go from there? Ah, but it's a soap, and after this season's many twists and turns—most of them downright enjoyable—anything is possible.

Meanwhile Castle looks like it will still hold its own as it returns for a seventh season. All eyes may be on Greys next year, which loses some team players.

And what's this? Fans are still reeling over the exit of Scandal's Columbus Short.

Already on ABC's chopping block: Lucky 7, Mind Games and Killer Women, none of which were hits with the critics or ratings' winners.

As for the newbies on the block next season. Look for Manhattan Love Story, The Whispers, Black-ish, Galavant and American Crime, as well as yet another Avenger's sibling, Marvel's Agent Carter, with Hayley Atwell of Captain America on board.

Stay tuned ...
