As described in a video-containing article by Billy Hallowell for Glenn Beck's news website, The Blaze, Alveda King has said that her uncle, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., would have been an eager supporter of the pro-life movement.
According to Hallowell's article, "Martin Luther King’s Niece Says He Would Have Supported Pro-Life Values":
… she claimed that King would have adamantly defended life from “conception until natural death,” as she delved into the notion that he would have championed pro-life values.
In describing her uncle and the titles that many attempt to attach to him, she said:
“It’s not so much about labels — liberal, conservative and all of that. But he was someone who lived and gave his life to help all humanity. And so that definitely would include conception until natural death. And he would want everyone to be able to live — to have food — to have somewhere to sleep and to have a job. You know, all of those things are very important. But, he would really support the best quality of life and that is conception to natural death.”
She went on to claim that “a woman has a right to choose what she does with her body,“ but she claimed that ”the baby is not her body.”
“How can the dream survive if we murder our children?,” she asked.
Among comments left to Hallowell's article were the following:
"ravendoe": "Amen, Dr. Alveda King, Amen! A woman does have a right to do with her body what she wants, until she is carrying another body, one of which belongs to someone else. Murdering an unborn child because of the sins of the parents is pure evil."
"thegrassroots": "Very Interesting! It appears, then, that Martin Luther King, Jr would be speaking out against the liberal agenda if he was alive today. Apparently 'The Dream' Martin Luther King, Jr dreamed and died for didn’t include murdering babies; it probably didn’t include the gay agenda either. It appears that the libs have spent all these years making up a fake story around a pretend Martin Luther King, Jr. They’ve Had To Because — Martin Luther King, Jr Was A Conservative! Keep Speaking Up, Dr Alveda King! Keep The Truth Out There About Your Uncle! The libs certainly won’t be telling the truth about him."
"The Third Archon": "Probably true–he likely would have been opposed to abortion, at least prefer to avoid it for most women. But he was also very socially and economically liberal, with a great deal of concern for the poor and very “progressive” remedies for social ills–look up 'Poor People’s Campaign.' "
