Day[9] is a familiar figure in the gaming world, both for his impressive professional StarCraft career and his commentary on pro matches of that game. But StarCraft isn't the only game he's a fan of; he's something of a Magic player on the side as well. And today, Wizards gave him another member of the new guildmage cycle to preview on his Facebook page: Sunhome Guildmage, the combat-oriented Boros entry.
The first ability is mass pump for the reasonable price of only three mana, which allows for an impressive swing on turn 3 or later if you've got a respectable weenie army, and since the ability doesn't include a tap in the cost, one of your attackers can be Sunhome Guildmage itself. Also, late in the game, you can ensure your opponent's demise when you alpha strike with an army that's pumped by +2/+0 or more with multiple activations.
That second ability, though, will perhaps be even more relevant to the Boros strategy; since the 1/1 token has haste, activating it means that since you have it and the Guildmage to swing with, you can trigger the battalion abilities of any of your creatures, including the super-powerful Lightning Helix blast of Firemane Avenger.
What do you think of the red and white guild's new magical shock troop? Let me know in the comments.
