Return of the text game: Choice of the Dragon

Does anyone out there remember the original computer games, those that only included TEXT and forced gamers to (gasp!) use their imaginations?

A new FREE game in the App Store has brought this concept back, Choice of the Dragon. Players can play as a dragon and do things that dragons do, including raiding villages, looting for gold, and kidnapping princesses. At least in this text game, players don't have to try to guess what actions to type in; it's all multiple choice, which leads to the possibility of multiple stories and multiple endings.

Maybe in the future, a text-based game will come along that forces players to know what magical words to type in to move the story along without dying. Or, even better, Zork will resurface in the App Store. Plenty of retro-fans would be happy to see that game back for sure.

But until then, we have Choice of the Dragon, a free chance for us all to go back in time without the use of a Delorean and plutonium.
