Retro fitness trends on the way to becoming cool again

Some retro trends are better left as being retro (teased bangs), but other trends are slowly creeping their way back into daily life. Legwarmers, mini skirts, 70's shirts, skinny ties and pop rocks are all back in again, so what's coming back in regards to exercise?

There are many trends making there return to pop culture when it comes to exercise. Who out there doesn't want to "get physical" when they are working out? One component that seems to be making a strong comeback, are exercise videos. However, now instead of popping in a Jane Fonda workout, people are using their On Demand cable systems to bring up exercise programs. In these tough times, when people don't have disposable income, one of the first things to go could be their gym memberships. An easy way to work out at home, and to make sure you have a set program, is by using videos or television On Demand.

Another exercise trend that seems to be making its way back is karate. Karate had a big movement in the 70's and 80's thanks in part to Daniel LaRusso (Karate Kid), and now it seems to be making a big push again for kids and adults alike. The great thing about getting fit with karate, is if you ever run into any Cobra Kai or other hoodlums, you will know how to protect yourself. If you live on the East side of Cleveland, New World Karate and Fitness has many karate and fitness programs to choose from. On the West side, All American Karate offers individual, self defense, sparring, children's and body sculpting classes to name a few.

One of the more fun fitness trends creeping its way back into the hearts of Clevelanders, is the hula hoop. Yes, not only is the hula hoop fun for all, but it can also be a great exercise tool. According to myoptumhealth.com, hoop classes can burn up to 100 calories in just 10 minutes. If you would like to challenge yourself and see if you can still shake your hips like the old days, there are classes available in Cleveland. If you are interested, you can sign up for 6-weeks worth of classes or if you're afraid of commitment, you can also just take it one class at a time. If you are interested in hoop classes, you can go to http://www.clevelandexoticdance.com/hoopclass.htm for more information.

Fitness trends, just like food, clothes and music all seem to come around a couple times throughout people's lives. If you had fun with these things the first time around, why not give it another shot? You never know, you may find out that you can still fit into your old leotard and legwarmers, and that you can still out-hoop all of your friends.

First, thank you so much for listing one of our classes in the article. Second, yes Prana Yoga and Dance is another great place to take hoop. Renee, the hoop instructor at Cleveland Exotic Dance, is also the hoop instructor at Prana! Wonderful energy, friendly and amazing person. She will keep you moving the whole hour! I recommend her class wherever she is teaching it.
