The Adult Reference Desk is taking advance registration for two retirement planning programs at the Henry Ford Centennial Library (16301 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn), one which will get underway tomorrow evening.

The Dearborn Public Library and TL Financial Group (a full-service investment advisory firm) are partnering to offer each program, comprising of two educational sessions in Room M30 at Centennial. The first session of “Retirement Planning Today” will start 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday (the followup session taking place Jan. 30). The other sessions (Option B) will be held at 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays (Jan. 28 and Feb. 4).

The public is also registering for Option A and Option B of the “Rejuvenate your Retirement” sessions. Option A will be offered 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays (Jan. 30 and Feb. 6), and the other will be offered on Tuesdays (Feb. 4 and 11) from 1-3 p.m.

The programs had been part of the Henry Ford Community College enrichment course curriculum, explained Henry Ford Centennial Library Adult Services Supervisor Patty Podzikowski, and when HFCC recently shut down their enrichment courses, “they (TL Financial) were looking for a place to offer their program, and I thought this met with our mission to educate people.”

TL Financial Group Wealth Management Adviser Erin Wozniak is presenting the “Retirement Planning Today” classroom instruction for adults ages 50-70. Podzikowski said that the course is aimed more toward people who have not yet retired, focusing on concerns such as planning goals for a successful retirement, finding out how much money will be needed in retirement, eliminating debt while you still have a job, etc.

But TL Financial Group founder Tony LaJeunesse will present “Rejuvenate your Retirement” more toward people who are already retired, she said, advising them on topics such as realigning their existing investments.

“When people register for these programs, they will receive a notebook filled with information,” Podzikowski said. “These people are very professional, they are very good at what they do, and they do help people on planning coming into retirement, and still ready to help them once they've actually entered into it.”

Payment of the $49 check for “Retirement Planning Today” and the $39 check for “Rejuvenate your Retirement” (made payable to “Friends of the Library Dearborn”) is required with registration, and advance registration is required with all program options (inquire at the Adult Reference Desk).

“Quite a few people have already registered,” Podzikowski said. “I've talked to people coming up to the desk, and they seem to have a lot of interest in the program and looking forward to it.

“It's something a lot of people are interested in today. They need to prepare for retirement, and I hope our program will provide that information to them,” she said.

The Henry Ford Centennial Library and Friends of the Library Dearborn are not affiliated with the TL Financial Group, Advantage Investment Management or LPL Financial. For questions regarding the course, contact the library at (313) 943-2300.
