Rethinking autism is a grounding appeal

Kevin Leitch is the creator of Left Brain/Right Brain, and a father of a child with autism. He has offered a voice of reason and has reflected on the good the bad  and the ugly related to the science of autism. He has always recognized the fight and has presented thought provoking articles regarding the controversies in the autism community.

Today,Sullivan, writer for LeftBrain/RightBrain wrote about Rethinking Autism . He quoted the woman who artfully counter-appealed to Celebrity Autism. " I am the mother of an autistic boy. I have had enough of the pseudo-science quackery that certain celebrities are pitching to parents of kids with autism. The media is concentrating on the pseudo-science and there needs to be a forum for more tried and tested information. It is virtually impossible for an individual to deliver a counter-message, but I may have found a way with RethinkingAutism.com."

Watch the video, it is riveting. Why? Because point-counterpoint is often a bitter pill, but a just one.

As the mother of a child with autism, this disgusts me! It's vulger and distasteful pure and simple.

You are obviously biased. So much for fair and impartial journalism.

Why because it puts the spin on it like Hollywood propagandists who feed you BS?

Thanks so much for posting this. I am the creator of RethinkingAutism.com and I'm so happy that you understand the intent of my project. There is more to come.

As the mother of several children with autism, this was done with taste...
Lin...would you prefer this beautiful woman
spread out as a Playboy Centerfold like that Jenny woman?? Now..that was tasteful ;)

    Jenette,

Ms. McCarty was a cnterfold BEFORE she had a child. How is she supposed to go back and change that???? A magic wand perhaps?!? She has not used sex to sell anything remotely related to autism. Intentionally using sex where vulnerable adults and disabled children are concerned is digusting and dispicable. Shameful!

Oh, and please don't "wink" at me. I don't know you that well, nor do I care to. Thanks.

    Lin,
I recognize your passion. We have no choice but to advocate for our children. Although my son has autism (not aspergers)I am grateful for his progress.
However, my crusade for autism awareness goes well beyond my personal journey. I have written often about the questionable "cure" that various celebrities speak about. I have reiterated that preaching "cure" does not help those with non-verbal children who are self-injurious and have severe behaviors.
The "centerfold" mentality certainly has appeared in interviews on Larry King Live and Time Magazine.(See earlier columns) Words in the vernacular have been laced through various interviews.
This parody may be distasteful to some, but oftentimes satire is controversial and that is part of the story of going public with opinion.

@Lin. Please, you need to chill out and realize that Jenny McCarthy loves her son and herself very much. She doesn't really care too much about autism. If she did, she would know the facts and stop with the false hopes. She would also be able to see the difference between a sick child and a child with autism.

Robin - lovin' it :) I seem to be going the same direction with my examiner articles. Why? Because polls, and sites I'm now finding (even though they don't have the likes of Jenny and Yoko Ono pushing them) are plentiful and showing a 23% for wanting a "cure" as opposed to 77% for managment of hurtful autism symptoms/conditions. Distasteful yes, but at least opening a new door.

This is disgusting, and pointless. Most people aren't even going to see the intended "message".

Besides, that bra doesn't even fit the model, she's falling out of it from the bottom, that's just annoying.
