Programs and plays; overwhelming services and songs; renting out halls and stadiums…. So that people can crowd together this weekend for the celebration of our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST. Wow! All of the hype; entertainment and dramatization in this nation, as we remember and are reminded that HE died so we can live! Isn’t it awesome? Isn’t it grand?
People will come to the events and the services, for different reasons. Some come to church on Easter and Christmas, because it seems the thing to do! Some go to the plays and events, because great entertainment is promised. But in all that is done, where is JESUS? In all of the hype; in all of the shopping for new clothes and new shoes, while Christian children await a fake bunny and a basket with eggs. Children starting off in the bondages of their parents; being taught a lie about a bunny; feeling the pressure of dressing up on the outside, without giving thought to the inside.
The stores are packed this weekend; the sales are on; the baskets are selling; the eggs are being died; the Easter bunny is in the mall. What are we doing? Where is JESUS? I wonder what would please HIM? I wonder if HE is pleased with the lies that are mixed with the TRUTH. I wonder how HE feels to see the effort taken by Christians, to get the right outfit and basket for their kids; but they NEVER witness to the lost. I wonder…..
If we continue in our sins, but we were present at the play… is it ok? If we are dressed in the finest attire; but our hearts are filled with unforgiveness… is it ok? If we are singing the resurrection songs…but living the old dead life…. Is it ok? If we say amen to the message… but we forget the message after the service… is it ok? If we say we love HIM, but our actions say we don’t….is it ok? If we tell our children that lies are wrong, but we tell them a lie about a bunny… is it ok? Does the truth mix with a lie? If the church is packed inside, but you never witness outside… is it ok?
I guess the question is…. Are we doing church like we desire: Or are we being the church as instructed? Yes, the Truth is that JESUS died and HE rose; so we can be forgiven and have life! That is certainly the Good News! The Truth is that we are to come together and worship; preach the WORD and praise the LORD. But the Truth is also, that you cannot mix the Truth with a lie; because JESUS is the TRUTH and the devil is the father of lies. The Truth is that the LORD does not need us to hype people up so they can give emotion led confessions; but the pure WORD has the power to actually change lives!
So Truth is…. The best way to celebrate CHRIST is to live for HIM. If we live a surrendered life to the LORD, this would be the greatest testimony of our faith! In this way, we can celebrate the LORD everyday! He lives in us, everyday! We can be witnesses, everyday! We can be ambassadors, everyday! Oh what a nonstop, powerful, awesome celebration that would be!
This year…let’s not JUST DO church! Let’s be the church……EVERYDAY! That’s powerful!
“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!” Philippians 3:8-10 NLT
