The “Summer Shootout” benefiting Isaac’s Fight was blessed with groundswell in July! Freesurfers and participants could hardly fathom the unusual albeit ideal wave conditions. A large number of supporters came out, and all competitors were stoked to surf this contest for a cause! After contest costs, $1,560 was raised for Isaac’s family. Contest t-shirts are still available for purchase at Southern Spears Surf Shop; the proceeds will also go to Isaac’s mother, Natalie DeHerrera. Natalie told one source: "I have been more than blessed from all of you and am actually doing well financially, now. God's definitely watching over me in every aspect."

Outlaw Johnny Surfboards, the host of the event, would like to express a heartfelt “thank you” to those who reached in their pockets, donated prizes and money, and volunteered their time. The community really chipped in, assembling a united effort. For example, sponsor Billy Hill made sure to post the event flyer on his "Happenings" page prior to his hospital arrival. Legendary local surfboard shaper, Bob Martin, donated a custom longboard. Damien McDonald, owner of Southern Spears Surf Shop, paid and secured permits. The examples of aid from the community are boundless. They are almost as vast as the contestants' smiles after surfing to help a family in need. Congratulations to all the contestants for putting on great performances!
