The previous article in this series discussed restructuring Maine's State Government. This article will focus on the State Government of Maryland.
First, the Department of Business and Economic Development should be renamed the Department of Commerce and Labor. In addition, it can obtain several agencies, including the Department of Labor, Licensing, & Regulation, Insurance Administration, State Labor Relations Board, State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency, and the Video Lottery Facility Location Commission.
Next, the Department of Education could obtain several agencies, including the Higher Education Commission, State Higher Education Labor Relations Board, Public School Labor Relations Board, Center for School Safety, and the Commission on Public Art.
Meanwhile, a Department of Justice can be established (headed by the Attorney General). The agenices it obtains would include the Department of Juvenile Services, Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services, State Police, State Prosecutor, and the Sex Offender Advisory Board.
Then there is the Department of the Interior. The agencies it obtains should include the Department of the Environment, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Planning, Environmental Service, and the State Geographic Information Committee.
Finally, there is the Department of General Services. The agenices it obtains could include the following: State Archives, State Retirement & Pension System, State Workers' Compensation Commission, Government House Trust, and the Interstate Agencies.
