“Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life.” Wayne Dyer
Here we go again with the ever changing Nebraska weather. This last Saturday had a high temperature of 54 degrees with fair skies and a slight breeze. If you have a hobby that takes you outside, Saturday was a good day to be outside in the fresh air doing what makes you happy. If your hobby is bird watching, fishing, or even metal detecting, Saturday was the day to be out doing it.
Sunday on the other hand was much different. The high temperature was 20 degrees, you could say quite a dive from Saturday's 54. Some areas even had light snow starting in the early afternoon hours.Saturday may have been a good day to be outside for some people. It was a good day for a walk, but not such a great day to be outside with your hobby.
Saturday, and today as well, the weather is great for inside hobbies. This is great weather for staying inside and sewing, woodworking, building models, playing whatever musical instrument tickles your fancy or blogging on any one of the many subjects bloggers blog about.
How about trying ‘restoration and fixing up' for a hobby? It is very rewarding and self- satisfying to be able to take something that is very old and restoring it to a beautiful state. Maybe it is something that isn’t really old; it has just taken a beating. Still, seeing the before and after gives you a real sense of accomplishment.
There are the obvious things that people restore like antique cars, furniture, and jewelry, tools, and picture frames. In your home there is a long list of things you can restore to a better condition.
Under your carpet you may have a wood floor that would love to be beautiful. There usually is a lot of sanding involved; you need to select a stain suitable for the look you are trying to achieve, and a proper finish. It may be challenging and time consuming, but very satisfying when you see the end result knowing that you accomplished this challenging task.
Maybe your couch needs new feet, or new upholstery. It could be it doesn’t need re-upholstered, maybe just a nip, tuck, and tighten. How about your dressers, vanities, drawers and cabinets of your bathroom or kitchen? Do they look worse for wear? There could be a refinishing or touch up project there as well; or, maybe just some new knobs or pulls.
Enjoy the cold Nebraska weather while you can as it will be hot and steamy soon enough. Stay inside and make the most of your time by making the best and the most of what you have. It is National Hobby Month, so find something satisfying and rewarding to do. Make yourself happy!
