As surrounded as Louisville is by farm land, it often seems hard to find true farm-to-table food in a restaurant. Luckily that concept came to fruition earlier this year when 732 Social opened in the East Market (aka Nulu) district of town that continues to evolve and surprise.
The menu at Social is ever-changing and fits the current growing season. Though inspired by French cooking, "comfort" is really a better way to describe the various menu options. Small plate items such as potatoes au gratin and mac and cheese are certainly comfort first, but then you venture on to large plate options such as steak au poivre and duck breast with liver and you know why they call it French. Because the food is on the heavier side, two small plates or one large is really enough for anyone.
All great meals have great libations to complement and Social does this part right. It features organic wine, a "pre-prohibition" cocktail list, and a long list of world and craft beer. The bar scene is a great place to check out any night of the week, but especially on the First Fridays Trolley Hop.
The prices may seem a bit higher than your average Applebee's, but remember that the food comes straight from a farm! But if you're worried about that budget, try going for a cocktail and a small plate, or enjoying a special occasion meal such as New Years Eve at Social. It will indeed be open on December 31st and it's sure to impress all.
