On last night's episode of "Restaurant: Impossible," Robert Irvine went to St. Louis, Mo. to visit the landmark Mama Campisi’s Restaurant in this episode titled “Bring Mama Back.”
Robert came to the restaurant to meet with Andrea and Lance Ervin who were victims of major theft in their restaurant to trusted employees who swindled them out of about $70,000. Since this happened, Andrea has changed dramatically and now, not only the restaurant is suffering, but their marriage too.
When Robert entered the restaurant he saw three separate dining areas and although several parts were great, it was tired. Robert discovered they are over $600,000 in debt and about to close. Their revenue dropped from a million dollars to losing money. Andrea had several back surgeries and away from the restaurant when the theft occurred. Andrea seemed to be in tears whenever Robert spoke with them. She is embarrassed that it was necessary to call in Robert, and seemed to be deeply depressed.
As Robert observed a service, the people stated that although they were famous for their toasted ravioli, they were dry and the servings were too big and not all that great. When Robert spoke with Lauren, their daughter and a server in the place, she stated that Andrea was difficult to talk to and suggestions fell on deaf ears. She feels that Andrea distances herself from her five children.
Robert ordered several items from the menu, but was not happy with any of them. The fish was smelly, the raviolis were frozen, and the rest was tasteless. Robert called the chef to task and told him that he was helping the restaurant fail.
When Cheryl came in to see the place, she had lots of ideas and called in the staff to remove everything from the place. Robert called the staff together and discovered that since the theft, Andrea trusts nobody. The people who are supposed to be in charge are no longer in charge and Andrea tries to do everything herself. Robert gave everyone a card and asked them what one thing they could do, so that Andrea does not have to do it. Robert got the financials and went over everything. He compared their restaurant statements with their income tax returns. He told them that they must get an accountant so they can see the red flags before disaster strikes. Lauren was happy that Robert was patching things up with the family as she wanted her mother back.
On the second day, Robert met with Andrea and found the cards which he attached to lengths of chains. As he read each one to her, he put the necklaces around her neck so she could feel the weight of what she was doing. Robert asked her who could do certain things, and he removed each chain as she designated the task to the person. In the end, she only had two that she wanted to keep. Then Robert had the whole family together and found out that they all wanted their mother back. It was a tearful meeting, but the future looks bright for them all.
In the kitchen, Robert showed Andrea and the cooks how to make fresh food that was tasty and that customers would love. The motivation in the kitchen was new and very refreshing. When Andrea, Lance and Lauren saw the inside, they were astounded at the change. It was an awesome job and Andrea’s expression changed dramatically. Then the children came in to view the restaurant and they were thrilled. As the crowd outside was anxious to enter, they all raved about the change. No more tired restaurant and staff, and the food was awesome. Thanks to Robert and his crew of "Restaurant: Impossible." this restaurant and family have found a new brighter future and the kids have their mother back.
