Robert came to the restaurant to meet with the Duncan family, who need help with their 33-year old restaurant that is deeply in debt. Bill and his daughters run the place, which was his father’s legacy.
As Robert observed a service, the people stated that the food was tasteless and lacked seasoning. Robert ordered several items from the menu, but was not happy with any of them. When Robert went into the kitchen, he was appalled at the cans of food and frozen items that were tasteless.
When Taniya came in to see the place, she was happy to see a great open restaurant and had plenty of ideas for the makeover. As they emptied the place, Bill’s mother and the rest of the family were filled with emotion, but knew that Ducky was watching over them from above and smiling.
As the crew inside was tackling the décor, Robert gathered the crew to tackle the people problems. As the staff assembled, Robert handed out cards and each one privately had to write down the name or names of those who were hurting the restaurant. Connie, the cook and Amanda, the manager got the highest amount of votes. Connie walked away and was willing to leave. As they all rallied around her, she agreed to stay for one month, but the communication gap between she and Amanda needed to be closed.
As Tom was rearranging the equipment in the kitchen, a major problem was found. The sewer line had collapsed under the concrete kitchen floor and repairs had to be done immediately. All night the work went on and finally in the morning, the concrete was laid in hope that it would dry quickly.
As Robert met with Bill, Amanda and Connie and ironed out the problems that were ongoing. Connie took a much-deserved break, and Robert went into the kitchen with Bill, Amanda and Jason. He showed them how easy it was to make fresh food like burgers, catfish and French fries from real potatoes, not frozen. Then Robert took the crew to a local park and had them try their new turkey sliders. After they ate and loved the taste, they were handed a small rubber ducky to bring back to the restaurant within a week for a free dessert.
When the family saw their new restaurant, they were astounded by the transformation. The old tired carpeting was gone, the place had a new shine and smelled so clean. But the best part was the pictures of Ducky and Bill’s mother, who started the place thirty-three years ago.
Thanks to Robert and his crew of "Restaurant: Impossible." this restaurant and family have found a new brighter future for another thirty-three years.
