A respite application must be completed and approved prior to service delivery. Proof of diagnosis and income is required. Access to the program is on a first-come, first-served basis and there may be a small waiting list. (214) 333-7000 Fax: 214-333-7073

1353 N. Westmoreland, Bldg F, Dallas, TX 75211

Program Director: A. G. Black.

This program offers funding to cover a variety of medical costs and respite care for children (and adults) with mental retardation, who are living in the family home or in their own home. The service is “family driven” and provides future planning concepts including service coordination, behavior management training and/or intervention, respite, therapy assessment and assistance with health care monitoring and management. Please contact (214) 333–7000 to see if you and your child are eligible.

MDCP (Medically Dependent Children’s Program)

This program provides respite care (as well as skilled nursing) for children with chronic medical issues. Eligibility is NOT income-based. This program (as well as the “C.L.A.S.S.” Program) is a Medicaid Waiver program, which means has a long wait list. However, a procedure called “Money Follows the Person” (formerly known as “Rider-28”) can expedite your child to the top of the list. To sign up for MDCP (and C.L.A.S.S.), call the State office at 1-877-438-5658 to have your child placed on the waitlist. After placing child on waitlist, to implement “Money Follows the Person,” call the region office at 972-337-6207 to be assigned a caseworker.
