It’s not Whoville, it’s WhoVAIL! Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail will unveil a life-size, Dr. Seuss’ Whoville-inspired gingerbread house on Dec. 13, as part of its new holiday offerings for children and their families this season. The giant gingerbread house is a product of combined creative efforts from the resort’s staff, and children from the community.
The 100-square-foot structure, was built in-house by the resort’s master carpenter, Frank Bontempo. The façade of the gingerbread house will have over 4,500 gingerbread tiles, equaling 475 pounds of gingerbread and 80 pounds of fondant and icing. The gingerbread tiles on the house will be decorated by one hundred children from Red Sandstone School, the local public school in Vail Valley. Inside the festive structure, there will be a fireplace and hearth adorned with cookies also decorated by local school children, who get to lay claim to their own pieces of the display, while the Grinch himself overlooks the house.
The town of Vail has been anxiously anticipating the unveiling, as they consider proclaiming Dec. 13th as official “WHOVAIL Day”. The children and families who participated in creating this masterpiece are invited to attend the official unveiling festivities.
“We are pleased to debut the completed gingerbread house to the families and children who put so much creativity into the house’s design,” said Mark Herron, general manager of Four Reasons Resort and Residences Vail. “The children should be proud to show off their work, and we are thrilled to have them participate in this unique festivity this season.”
Guests and locals are invited to celebrate the holiday season with Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail with a variety of festive events and activities as well. Other holiday offerings at the resort include, cookie and ornament decorating classes with the resort’s culinary team, a presentation of the Nutcracker Highlights by the Vail Ballet Academy, as well as the resort’s signature Sugar Shack and Polar Bear Burger Bar.
