The showing for Elie Saab Resort 2013 is a conundrum of office imposed glamour and couture swing. The interesting mix of tweed matching suit separates, beaded embellished gowns and lace-inset dresses gave the collection an un-uniformed theme, however, the details, cut and designs were very formal.
Peplum waist skirts and cocktail dresses, as well as crafty long flowing gowns defined the collection. An alteration of spring and fall like colors that gave the collection a makeshift effect--as in you could wear the same pieces for the Fall and couldn’t tell the difference between season --were among the high points for the collection.
Colors were subdued but effectively incorporated into standard spring colors. For example the use of brown with key lime green for a color blocked dress, and brown with lavender that worked rather well although those two colors normally wouldn’t be put together in a well thought out ensemble.
Standouts among the collection include; a tweed matching suits separates with key lime green foulard, a silver fox colored lace-inset jumpsuit, a lavender jersey-gown with belt, a lace-inset mesh paneled black gown, and a v-neck beaded gown with belt. Accessories were kept to a bare minimum that featured color blocked briefcase like handbags, and shoes that were stunning cut-out heeled sandals which serve to enhance the garments.
Elie Saab Resort 2013 showing read more like a guide to office haute couture rather then an ordinary Resort collection. The varying pieces captured the essence of the Fall but still maintained the presence of Spring and Summer which gave the collection an overall classic touch.
