Resolving to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

Feeling your New Year’s momentum beginning to fade? As each day passes, the sounds of the horns and clinking champagne toasts that welcomed in 2013 become more distant. The excitement about starting anew thanks to the resolutions you made for this year slowly begins to ebb as well. You might find yourself exclaiming, “No, not again!”

Making changes is never a smooth road; there will certainly be speed bumps along the way. But, sometimes a helping hand and time away from every day temptations can save your resolutions. A getaway to a B&B can offer both. Known for their personal touch and unique offerings, they offer some possible solutions to common, hard-to-keep resolutions.

Resolution #1: Focus on Wellness. Are you hoping for a “new you” in the New Year? The Spirit Lake Bed and Breakfast, located in Lower Lake, CA, will start you on your journey with their therapeutic aquatic massage that taps into the mind, body and spirit. As you float in 98 degree water and the rhythmical currents caress your skin, you will be gently stretched allowing muscle tightness to decrease and range of motion to increase. Moments of stillness as you are buoyed by the water let the mind to relax while also awakening the spirit.

Resolution #2: Remember to Romance. Busy schedules may have you and your sweetheart running circles around each other. This year, you can both wish upon a star for more one-on-one time at The Lodge at Sedona - A Romantic Bed and Breakfast Inn. Whether admiring the starlit sky from the privacy of your king suite’s deck or in the outdoor pool, you will get a chance to reconnect and dream about your future together. Afterwards, enjoy some evening appetizers before walking hand-in-hand along the manicured grounds or through the meditative labyrinth at this Sedona, AZ, bed and breakfast inn.

Resolution #3: Spend More Time with Family and Friends. Instead of shuttling between everyone’s homes, bring your loved ones together under a single, cozy roof at the Whistling Swan Inn located in Stanhope, NJ. You will be able to rent out the entire inn whether it’s for a special occasion or just a way to reconnect with those dearest to you. You can choose from nine individually appointed guest rooms including four suites with Jacuzzi tubs and in-room fireplaces.

Resolution #4: Give Back to Others. At the Captain Lord Mansion, a Kennebunkport, ME, bed and breakfast inn, you can give back while getting away. Innkeeper Bev started The Lois Ann Fincher Memorial “Dime for Time” Campaign in honor of her sister who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2003. From January through October, the inn pledges to donate 50 cents for a guest’s first stay and 10 cents multiplied by the number of additional stays (for a second stay the inn will donate 20 cents, third stay 30 cents and so on) to the American Cancer Society. Select New England-based survivors nominated by email submissions to innkeeper@captainlord.com will receive a complimentary 2-night stay at the campaign’s end in November.

Resolution #5: Have Fun Learning Something New. Have you ever wanted to try something new, but said to yourself, “Sure, but maybe next time?” If so, let 2013 be the last time you say those words. For instance, you can learn how to horseback ride at the First Farm Inn located in Petersburg, KY. The lessons begin with grooming techniques as a way of getting familiarized with the horse. Next, the instructor will teach you basic commands; once you are feeling comfortable, you will take a ride around the farm admiring its sprawling landscape. After the lessons are complete, you can enjoy a revitalizing sunset dip in the outdoor hot tub to soothe any achy muscles.

Old habits die hard especially when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. This year, try a different route by combining them with a B&B getaway and letting R&R be your reward.
