Forget weight loss, or a better paying job, or scaling a mountain, or whatever lofty goal you have set for yourself in the New Year. Start it out with something simple, laughing. Besides, if you can’t laugh along the way than accomplishing anything that’s not simple will be even less so.
So in 2014 make your resolution to laugh more. Whether it be with friends, family, or just chance acquaintances that you run into; laugh together and laugh often. Challenge yourself to see the humor in all situations. This is my advice for this year and every one after.
A good way to help along this resolution is to support live comedy. The comedy scene here in Metro-Detroit is big and growing. Every night of the week you can enjoy comedy for the price of free to about 20 dollars. There are many choices. For 15-20 you can probably catch professional comedy at Joey’s Comedy Club, Mark Ridley’s Castle, The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, or even Connxtions Comedy Club in Lansing if you feel like traveling a bit farther. Even farther you can check out Dr. Grins Comedy Club in Grand Rapids. Michigan has some of the greatest comedy clubs in the country.
If you want to spend a little less, or maybe even none at all, you can still catch working comics honing their craft, or many of the up and coming comics trying to make a name for themselves in the area any day of the week. To catch these shows click on any of the links below or just go there and have a beer and ask the waitress! All of these shows cost 0-5 dollars.
