Resolutions to the side, Lead a New Year’s REVOLUTION

Laughing at the AT&T kids commercials seems to be universal among family, students, and friends. The latest version that includes a jellybean “revolution” got a group of us conspiring….. After all….

December was a blur? Those “must have” gifts for loved ones, now result in holiday bills headed in to enslave? Seems cold weather reflects the frosty atmosphere, as we head into the long winter months?
Prior to 2014’s arrival, taking time to reflect and breathe deeply is imperative. Get determined not to just compile resolutions, rather LEAD a family REVOLUTION!

Essential 10 list to improve Life this year:

1)Have more PEACE by being organized. Constantly complimented on capacity… capacity smacity, it’s all about planning at “down times”. It’s the only way to survive the crazy periods… Organization leads to more flexibility, and more time to respond to changes… Determining those down slow times, then utilizing those precious hours to plan for the whole year - Try it, you’ll like it!

2)Have more REST while working harder together! So many of us make the mistake of being the Super Man or Woman= doing it all ourselves, Stop it!! Including kids in chores, family projects, and overall goals is essential. Ever hear “I’m bored”, they won’t be when the endless chores are shared. Even if it initially takes longer (double the effort=long term gratitude results), families who work together don’t regret making the effort…. Resting together is WOW!

3)Have more FAILURE: Kids stop being afraid to try new things, when they see fearlessness modeled. Why was David so valiant in the face of Goliath? What did he place his confidence in? What have you always wanted to do? We aren’t ever alone, plus what’s the worst that can happen? Try new things!

4)Have more SPACE: Minimize our stuff! Hoarding runs deep in our family, yet giving away as much as possible allows less to clean, closet space, … plus how good does it feel, to know someone else needs it.

5)Have more HEALTH: Find the Exercise that suits your physical state, your schedule, and your family. Not about being Size 0 or young forever, yet every step gets us closer to a longer productive life.

6)Have more FOOD: The “Rice & Beans” campaign @ Crossroads was a great success! Eating for a cause can be extrardinary. So many students have challenged us on the Vegan/Vegetarian fight, while that may be too extreme to consider. Look at movements that continue to grow: Fair Trade; local food sourcing; organic; gluten free; …. Stores provide what the consumer demands.

7)Have more COMMUNICATION: make connection a priority. Don’t we all want to be appreciated? Listened to? Even teens need this level of interaction! We have more technology, but less time… or do we? We will never get these moments back…. Emails, texts, tweets… they all allow us to survive… If we were in trouble at 3am, who would you call? Being that “Go To” is high on life’s list.

8)Have more FAMILY & FRIENDS: My name is _______________, and I’m a workaholic! “Pats on the back”, compensation, perks, and cultural pressure to succeed can be enticing. There are times we have no option but to work; however, prioritizing family and friends is soooooo worth it. The rise of mediums is an obvious reflection of our too busy lives. What would we give to gain a few more words with Grandma? A spouse? A child? A beloved friend? … Pick up the phone, get in the car, … Time=Love!

9)Have more FUN – laughing, lightening the load, or plain just being silly…. Why most of us love working with students. Wearing reindeer antlers, or dressing like a hobbit, or…. These opportunities give us pause to not to take ourselves so seriously. Work, school, family can all be a burden, or life’s retreat.

10)Have more FAITH – Not religion, it’s a lifestyle. At our core, do we live what we say we believe? Not directly answering questions, driving the curious crazy is crux to their understanding. Knowing why & where they believe is essential to what they live. 1,000s came to the defense of Duck Dynasty’s Phil? Embrace right or left politics? The new Pope is beloved? So many might write off a fallen society… yet we find the higher the standard, the greater the appeal. Our next generation craves leadership, and meaning ! Content confident people have outstanding FAITH!
