As parents, we guide and encourage our children so they may develop into well-rounded happy adults and become responsible contributing members of society.
With that in mind, I would like to share with you a few resolutions to think about for children in 2012.
In 2012 let us resolve to teach our children:
- Be happy…that they can be happy if they choose to be happy.
- Smile… a smile is the simplest thing they can do to brighten the day of others.
- Compassion and Understanding… go beyond empathy to understanding others.
- Be polite…that there is no such thing as being too polite.
- Listen… listen without judgment, or criticism.
- Respect…that respect includes people, property, animals, most of all themselves.
- Enjoy…to focus on, and enjoy what they already have.
- Wrong…that it is okay to be wrong, as that is how we learn.
- Money… they should choose their investments and financial advisers wisely.
- Best…that people usually do the best they can with the information and knowledge they have at the time.
- True…that if something looks too good to be true it likely is.
- Friendships…good friends can enrich their life.
- Family… friends may come and go but family will always be by their side.
- Live…that life is short and that they should make the most of each and everyday. They should do things that make them smile, that make them feel alive and energized.
- A Journey…to remember that life is more about enjoying the journey than simply reaching the destination.
- Read…Each day read something to improve their mind. Reading improves their Vocabulary, Writing Ability, Speaking Ability, Ideas, Perspectives, Education, Entertainment, Sophistication, Memory, Mental stimulation to improve brain function and actually protects against cognitive decline.
- Learn…Never stop learning. The world is filled with new things to learn. Technology changes, discoveries and creativity are all around. Great people never stop learning they realize learning is a big part of what makes life interesting. Continuous learning is vital for them to make the most of what the world has to offer.
The time with our children is precious and relatively short. So let us all resolve to spend every moment we can sharing 2012 with our children.
