Tuesdays have long been known as busy days in Balboa Park. The park fills with families, couples, singles of all ages and groups. But the crowds are not just a random gathering of visitors. The people have come to the park for a very specific reason. Tuesdays are special days for San Diego County residents. It is the one day of the week that Balboa Park and the city give back to the community.

Each Tuesday of the month, with the exception of the months that have a 5th Tuesday, Balboa Park museums offer free general admission to San Diego County residents. This is a great opportunity for San Diego residents to enjoy what San Diego's favorite public park has to offer. This ongoing monthly event allows residents on a limited budget to get out and about for free, as well as enjoy the great cultural institutions that call Balboa Park home. From art museums to historical organizations, Balboa Park has a well-rounded offereings that suit even the selective visitor. On Tuesdays, residents can enjoy these institutions "on the house".

  • San Diego Art Institute
  • Mingei International Museum
  • San Diego Museum of Art
  • San Diego Museum of Man
  • Japanese Friendship Garden

General admission includes most galleries and permanent exhibitions at the institutions. Many museums will offer discounted rates for special exhibitions.
