A resident and a suspect were injured in a scuffle during a home invasion Friday in Roswell, and police said they had to shut down two schools while they searched the area for the suspect.
On Saturday, they were still searching for the armed intruder.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. at 520 Hembree Grove Overlook, according to Roswell police.
Investigators said a man with a bushy goatee and a distinct body odor entered the home through a back door and surprised the resident.
“A brief altercation occurred and both people were injured,” police spokesman Lt. James McGhee said. “The victim was not seriously injured but was transported to the North Fulton Regional Hospital. The suspect had a knife and possibly a handgun on his person; he fled the scene on foot.”
Two schools in the area, Elkin’s Point Middle and Hembree Springs Elementary, were put on lockdown as a precaution for about an hour, Lt. McGhee said.
The suspect, who was wearing a black sweatshirt with hoodie and blue jeans, ran from the home. Police have not released any details on his injuries or the victim.
