Leaked Wednesday, a screenshot and box art for a sequel to the 2012 3DS game, "Resident Evil: Revelations," has surfaced online.
Originally spotted by French video game site Gamer in a Box, a disturbing looking box art with the title "Biohazard: Revelations 2, the Japanese name for the "Resident Evil" series, popped up online. Along with the box art, a single screenshot of the supposed game were found within the domain of the official Xbox website. While previously active, the links to the images found on Xbox.com have been taken down. Capcom has yet to comment on the leaks, but it has been speculated that the game's announcement was meant for this year's Tokyo Game Show. Capcom has never guaranteed a sequel to "Resident Evil: Revelations," but the Japanese publisher did cite the game as a financial highlight last year.
The Xbox 360 box art suggests the new "Resident Evil" game will appear on seventh generation consoles like the PlayStation 3, but it's unclear if the Xbox One or PS4 will be included as well. Even though "Resident Evil: Revelations" began on the 3DS, the next installment may be for consoles only. In 2013, Capcom released a high-definition port of the 3DS title for the Xbox 360 and PS3; possibly to introduce and establish a console audience for the spin-off, along with profiting further off the game. A Wii U version seems highly unlikely, as Capcom has no plans to bring the HD port of the "Resident Evil" remake for Nintendo's latest console, despite originally being a GameCube exclusive.
According to Metro, rumors surrounding "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" say three familiar characters will return: Two female and one male. The characters returning are apparently ones that haven't been seen in the franchise for over a decade, which point to the return of Barry Burton and Claire Redfield.
