After months of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Capcom announced yesterday morning that they are releasing a console port of Resident Evil: Revelations, dubbed the ‘Unveiled Edition’. A former 3DS exclusive, Revelations will soon be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. A trailer for the console port was also released. It is scheduled to launch in North America on the 21st of May, and will reach Europe later, on the 24th.
This announcement wasn’t a complete surprise, as the full list of achievements was leaked approximately a week ago. Regardless, fans rejoiced at the announcement, and for good reason. Resident Evil: Revelations is considered by many to be a must-own title for the 3DS, and is arguably one of the best original releases its series has seen since Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005.
Revelations proved that Capcom could return to the series’ survival horror roots, while still retaining the more modern over-the-shoulder style. Reintroducing the puzzle solving and slow paced horror that the original games were famous for, this title felt like a return to form. While Revelations was leaps above Resident Evil 5, switching between characters and the occasional battle heavy chapter made for pacing issues.
Fortunately, the meat of this game is in its cramped exploration of the Queen Zenobia, an infected cruise ship. It is here that series veteran, Jill Valentine, must make her way through narrow corridors while avoiding whatever man-made abominations may lurk in the shadows. Confrontations are hard to avoid, and gunning through hordes of enemies is rarely a sensible option. With some excellent visuals and genuinely scary moments, Resident Evil: Revelations is perfect for those who are looking for the survival horror experience.
Resident Evil: Revelations 'Unveiled Edition' makes its way to North American shores on May 21st, and will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.
