Cyclist and residence from the St. Louis region, mostly University City residence, attended a meeting on the proposed University Bike/ Pedestrian plan that intend on increase cycling, walking and exercise in University City. Planners goal is to have a bike path within a mile form everybody. Some attendees express support for the draft plan because they wanted to see more bike trails was well as trails that encourage people to ride their bikes more. One attendee who rides on Olive told the crowd that drives are rude to him. Some attendees express concern about the plan.
Parts of the plan propose bike trails through private subdivision and gated communities. Private Subdivisions and gated community are meant to limit traffic through that pass through. Most residence living in such communities who attended the meeting opposed opening up building bike trials through their subdivisions and community. A representative so a Subdivision inquire about the cost of building a bike path through his subdivision and did get an answer but was told the federal government usually pays 80% of the cost.
