Summerdale, AL - The Facebook page for Purple Hearted Puppies has been removed, but the anger for what the organization has done remains.
Dozens upon dozens of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs were abandoned at the facility - left to fend for themselves while locked up in cages.
The boarding kennel/breeding operation/rescue organization became a house of horrors when their care-providers abandoned them for over a week.
By the time that authorities were tipped off to the situation, many of the cats and dogs had already perished.
Some were so desperate for food that they resorted to eating the bodies of those who had already died.
Officials in the area have stated that this is the worst case of animal cruelty that they have had the misfortunate of encountering.
According to WKRG News, the Summerdale Police Department is reaching out to the public for assistance in this overwhelming situation.
According to that publication, donation and volunteers are asked to report to the Purple Hearted Puppies kennels on Friday morning.
Those dealing with this dire situation are hoping to receive donations of pet food, blankets and kennels.
The kennels are located near the intersection of County Road 36 and 83.
According to AL.com, two people have been arrested for this deplorable situation. A mother, daughter team apparently ran the kennel operation.
Authorities have taken Roberta and Sharon Dueitt into custody. The women are being held at the Foley Jail.
Eventually the surviving animals will be moved to the Baldwin County Humane Society. No doubt, this organization will need help in dealing with this massive influx of animals.
