Rescued pets get a new lease on life as stars of Comedy Pet Theater at Keswick (Photos)

Russian circus superstar Gregory Popovich and his sensational Comedy Pet Theater are wowing audiences around the country with a brand-new show featuring a unique combination of rescue-pet performers and eye-popping juggling. Popovich provides non-stop fun for all ages with his award-winning show featuring a cast of talented cats and dogs rescued from animal shelters and transformed into stars for 2 shows at the Keswick Theatre, Sunday, February 17 at 3 and 7 PM.

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a perfect family show and will surprise and delight audiences of all ages with an extravaganza of clowns, amazing juggling and balancing acts, and of course, very talented performing pets. But there is more than meets the eye with the Comedy Pet Theater. For Popovich, the show is animated by a deep love of cats and dogs and a very serious, life-long commitment to helping rescued pets.

“One of the main messages of my show is to bring attention for animal shelters, and the many homeless pets and rescue efforts out there. Because all my pets in my shows have been rescued by animal shelters, I feel it’s my mission to ‘payback’ animal shelters and try to help other pets if I have this opportunity.”

Gregory’s unique philosophy toward animal training is to build tricks around the animals’ personalities, instead of pushing them to perform. His technique centers on positive reinforcement and compassion. In addition to being a wonderfully entertaining show, Mr. Popovich is raising awareness about homeless pets with his unique blend of world-champion juggling, acrobatics, comedy and over 30 performing pets. Comedy Pet Theater is a new way to incorporate pets in showbiz, spotlighting the personality and individualism of each pet.

The animal antics are adorable and amazing with dogs jumping rope, riding scooters, cats jumping over hurdles, balancing on perilously thin beams and moving wheels, and even pushing a stroller... with a dog in the baby basket. In one of the show’s highlighted sketches, dogs, cats, and mice hand tickets to a conductor before they board a train.

Gregory is a fifth generation circus performer; his parents stars of the Russian circus. It was in the big top, where Gregory honed his natural ability forming special bonds with the animals in his parents act. He learned to juggle at a very early age and went on starring in his first solo performance when he was barely a teenager.

For the next few years, Gregory traveled the world with the Moscow Circus, eventually becoming the star of the circus and its representative at international circus competitions worldwide. He performed his juggling act in the center ring, becoming the first Russian artist to ever appear in the “Greatest Show on Earth.”

Gregory Popovich has been voted “Entertainer of the Year” by the American Circus Association, appeared on The Tonight Show with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and recently, Gregory was featured on Animal Planet’s Who Let the Dogs Out. Gregory Popovich and his Comedy Pet Theater have received multiple awards such as “Best Family Attraction”, and a spot in the final rounds of competition on the hit NBC television show America’s Got Talent.

A pet supply collection is being held on-site in conjunction with this event to benefit the Montgomery County SPCA.
