It took a mining disaster for him to pop the question. Now a Cleveland jeweler wants to help rescued miner #18 make good on his marriage proposal.
Esteban Rojas',44, and Jessica Ganiez,43, have been together for 25 years. The couple has 3 kids, 2 grandchildren and was hitched legally years ago in a civil ceremony. However it was Rojas who reportedly put off prospects of the couple having a traditional Chilean church wedding. Then in August, trapped about 2,000 feet underground in a mine, Rojas scribed on a scrap sheet of paper, "When I get out, let's buy the dress and we'll get married."
The entire world was privy to Rojas' unusual marriage proposal to his sweetheart Ganiez. That proposal and inspirational rescue on Wednesday lead Chad Schreibman of Alson Jewelers in Cleveland, Ohio to offer the couple a three stone diamond engagement ring. The diamonds represent the couples past, present and future.
Speaking with Action 19 news, Schreibman said he reached out to the rescued miner in the hospital. The jeweler is now awaiting word if the couple will accept Alson's free offer.
