Whatever introspection and makeover the Republican party will seek, it will all be cosmetic. That dynamic personality who also happens to be the National Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus, had appointed a five member panel to investigate what the Republicans need to do to start winning presidential elections again. They seem pretty good so far at keeping control of the House of Representatives since they've gerrymandered enough key states so Tea Party types keep getting reelected. Most Americans though find the Republican party "narrow minded" and "out of touch"....and that was the good news!
The "stuffy old men" also mentioned in the report as a representation of who is in the Republican party, would obviously include such broad-minded women as Sarah Palin, still a favorite over the majority of this party who control everything-which is why they'll never win back the White House under these conditions. Listening to some of what Sarah Palin had to say at last weeks CPAC convention spells volumes over why this party is adrift, and they'll remain stuck because the inmates are in control of the asylum. Palin still has that remarkable ability to talk for extended periods of time without saying anything. Taking weak jabs at President Obama and the Democrats isn't going to turn anybody around outside that kooky-far right area of America which already thinks she's presidential material. The only thing that troubles me about people like that is they breed more that those who think more. Look at poor countries with uneducated masses-they breed like flies.
The polarization in Washington has worsened as the Tea Party as grown. Most Americans realize this, and the fact that as the economy slowly picks up speed, this unpatriotic bunch of extremists seek to stall growth, and any success Obama and his party would receive as reestablishing a more vibrant economy after the worst economic trauma since the Great Depression. That historic tragedy began in 1929 and didn't lift until the start of WWII, in December, 1941.
The reason Tea Party types won't change is because they don't see a problem. They blame others for the polarization. Even Karl Rove has put an organization together with hopes of derailing more far right Republicans from even being nominated, like Todd Aiken in Missouri. The far right now is angry over this since they don't see any problem with white guys saying rape is still God's will, and the resulting pregnancy should be carried to term. These creatures of the extreme right actually thinks the old Republican party wasn't "conservative" enough. Genuine conservatives who used to compromise with Democrats and helped America move forward have been replaced by the far right, and subsequently, their party are losing masses of voters who just don't think like they do. The Republicans can put commissions together and other, so-called, remedies, but as long as their party is held captive by Tea Party types, they're stuck in neutral, and maybe even reverse.
This crowd which includes the likes of Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, are against immigration reform so they can kiss the ever-growing Hispanic vote goodbye. The party is anti-abortion under most any circumstance, so they can wave bye-bye to the women's vote. Gays were even prevented from some events at CPAC last week so their vote is not wanted either. Other than white people, this party is on a trajectory to nowhere, but at least going nowhere with like-minded souls is a fun ride...and no colored people need to be on this bus.Even Rob Portman came out in favor of gay marriage-why?, because his son is gay. Once real people begin to "relate" to others who are not necessarily like them in appearance or dialect, they can't see anything relevant in this version of the Republican party. John Boehner is also held captive. He's no extremist, but to keep his job as Speaker, he must pretend to be 'one of them". This take-over of the Republican party is like that great old science fiction movie, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". One day, several years ago, Republicans went to sleep, and woke up with these far-right-wing mutants inhabiting their bodies. Nothing would be the same again. Odd and weird people began showing up like Palin, Paul and Ted Cruz, and cheerleaders like that scarecrow of a woman, Ann Coulter. The old moderates were hounded out, and the new extremists were treated as though what they spewed out made sense. Up is down, black is white, and the Republican party is slowly appealing to a group more representative of America as it appeared when the "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was originally released: the 1950s.
Republicans can create the illusion they care by getting a few Hispanics, blacks and some women to do TV commercials, but it won't win votes. They can't hide the truth, and they really can't handle the truth that their message has no mass attraction. Priebus made some lame appeal to all "prospective" voters when he said, 'we welcome you with open arms. There's more than unites us than you know". Nice try Reince, but is that all you got?
