Republicans defeat themselves and overlook challenging Obama. In 2012, GOP candidate Mitt Romney wasn’t forceful in disclosing President Obama’s frailties. Yet, Team Obama launched a vicious campaign against Romney who is a fine, devout man, the antithesis of Obama. Obama should have lost the election. Unemployment was 7.9% and the economy struggled throughout his first term. The raid in Benghazi was pure red meat for the Romney. But for some reason, the old-guard Republicans in Washington don’t dare take off the gloves and confront Obama.
Today, with budget battles looming in Washington between the House and Senate, Republicans like Arizona Senator John McCain and New York Congressman Peter King are firing vitriol towards fellow Senate Republicans Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah. They’re saying nothing to or about Obama who is threatening the to shut the government down if Obamacare is not fully funded. Though, House Republicans voted to fully funded everything but Obamacare.
Republicans have a legitimate argument. Obama has issued over a dozen waivers or exemptions which were written in the law. He constitutionally cannot do that. Also, the Department of Health and Human Services has been experiencing computer difficulties preventing from accepting enrollees. Senators Lee and Cruz are presenting a justifiable case to defund or delay Obamacare.
Obama and the Democrats are saying Obamacare is a wonderful law. Then why all the exemptions and computer problems? Why aren’t Congressional Democrats and government employees eagerly signing up for Obamacare? Union leaders like James Hoffa of the Teamsters and Richard Trumka of the AFL-CIO are objecting to Obamacare more than many Republicans.
So, the establishment Republicans who wish to remain in good graces with the elites in Washington direct their name-calling to fellow Republicans. If Republicans are ever serious about winning national elections and controlling both chambers of Congress, then they should appoint conscientious Senators like Cruz and Lee as party leaders. They serve the needs of Americans not the power brokers inside the Beltway.
Final Thought: The Detroit Lions are 3-1 and the Pittsburgh Steelers are 0-4. Is this what is meant by Fantasy Football?
