After it was announced that there would be yet another investigation into the attacks in Benghazi, Republicans were quick to set up their plan to raise big money for the upcoming elections. The new House select committee, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, pushed back at any efforts to raise money stating that “I have never sought to raise a single penny on the back of four murdered Americans,” but it seems that Republicans are ignoring his words.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has sent out e-mails and a link to a new webpage in an attempt to create “Benghazi Watchdogs." How do you become a Benghazi Watchdog? The answer is simple - give money. Atop the webpage reads "You Can Become A Benghazi Watchdog Right Now" with promises that House Republicans "will make sure that no one will get away from Gowdy and the Select Committee."
In addition to the NRCC, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is also getting into the act. At the official NRSC website, there is a lengthy article on why Democrats are holding back vital information about the attacks in Benghazi and if conservatives want to know the truth they will have to simply donate money, elect a Republican majority and wait.
"Instead of holding the Obama administration accountable on matters of national security, Democratic Senators instead leapt to the defense of President Obama and tried to keep the truth hidden for political purposes.
They are not independent voices, they are Administration lap dogs and rubber stamps willing to repeat whatever the Obama administration tells them to.
Americans deserve the truth about Benghazi and it's clear Democrats will not give it to them. Donate today and elect a Republican Senate majority."
No one is denying that what happened in Benghazi was a tragedy, but accusations of a scandal or cover up taking place seems to be nothing more than pure politics. With the 2014 midterms just months away and the 2016 presidential election soon to follow, Republicans are gearing up their attacks on President Obama and the presumed Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton. While dirty tactics shouldn't come as a surprise in Washington, raising money off of the backs of four dead Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, is something Republicans should be ashamed of.
