Republican Senator says black people don't enjoy the holidays

Wisconsin state senator, Glenn Grothman, wasted no time ringing in the new year with an absolutely tone deaf statement by claiming that Kwanzaa is a holiday that "almost no black people today care about."

This was first reported by shorewood.patch.com which found Grothman's remarks in a December press release aptly titled, "Why Must We Still Hear About Kwanza". The senator went on an absurd tirade where he called Kwanzaa a "false holiday" and claimed that it was first "conjured up by a racist college professor" and is only "perpetuated by hard-core liberals." Grothman claims "almost no black people today care" about the holidays, especially Kwanzaa. He did not offer any scientific study or data to verify his claims.

Grothman's democratic colleagues on the other side of the aisle are not impressed nor surprised at this recent outburst. Meg Moen, a democratic party treasurer commented:

His recent press release about Kwanzaa was absolutely jaw-dropping. Not only does Senator Grothman seem to find his inherent racism acceptable, he implores people to follow his lead and question a holiday that African-Americans have been celebrating for years.

He, as usual, blames progressives and teachers, for respecting all traditions, and having the audacity to include every holiday and tradition that occurs around this time every yeaThat press release is absolutely disgusting and drips with disdain for African-Americans and, therefore, I am calling on him to retract his statements.

While controversy spreads over the comments, it has been locally reported by todaystmj4.com that Grothman will not apologize for his remarks.
