It looks like the republican party has suffered another blow with the resignation of Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy, who may be involved in some shady sexual situations. That's not entirely surprising considering the staggering number of sex scandals the GOP has experienced over the past 100+ years. Addicting Info shared the news of this resignation on Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, and it certainly seems as though it's a gift to liberals on this eventful day.
It's reported that Rick Sheehy made "improper, late night calls" on the state's dime (Nebraska), using a state issued cellphone. He is believed to had been in contact with at least four women over the past four years -- and not one of them is his wife. So it looks as though he has some explaining to do not only to the taxpayers in his state, but to his devoted life partner who undoubtedly deserves better.
In case you are wondering why this is even news, Sheehy was handpicked by the current Nebraskan Governor Dave Heineman as Lt. Governor. Heineman had hopes that his republican protege would run for Governor of Nebraska and had already endorsed him (and prematurely if you look at the current scandal). Because of Sheehy there is no longer a "shoo in" republican for that coveted governor's position in Nebraska. This leaves a wide window of opportunity open for democrats who have hopes of running for governor. So not only is this news, but it's a huge win for democrats in this current political climate.
In fact, the state chairman of the democratic party, Vince Powers, said that they already have a "strong candidate" for the upcoming 2014 election. So look out, republicans! On the other hand, Nebraska is a notoriously red state so it's unlikely this sex scandal will have any bearing on how the residents vote.
